8:50PM - Dinner at GC

Sat 15th Apr 2006

I wasn’t actually taking the fact very well that I had to go to office on a Saturday, and work as well. I don wanna get started on that now!! Lets look at the brighter side, it was Saturday night and time to experiment or should I say explore a new restaurant, mostly to quench the thirst of the hidden Columbus in me !!! ( did I just sound happening or what )This so called expedition was accompanied by 2 more captains Sriki & HV.
After a quick bite at Transit at 19:00, it was time to decide our destination. We jus hung around in landmark for a while, even checked out the new Times food guide, but I guess its more fun when v r confused n take r sweet time to decide. We met up with our friend Srinu for a short while, who sometimes does a guest appearance during our expeditions. He did the vanishing act pretty quickly and the 3 of us were back to deciding, after all important decisions in life must be thought over n over.
How bout Golconda Chimney (GC)??? GC it is. Hmmm that was pretty quick indeed, I wont say record time but quick. Kormangala to Marathhalli , the weather was pleasant, there was free flowing traffic on airport rd, we decided the place pretty quickly…have to say it was kinda tailor made for dinner at GC that day. Finally after half n hour we reached GC.
GC is quite close to the IT belt of Blore. From the 1st look when we parked our bikes, it was quite attractive, as I like open restaurants with a good view. I wont comment much on the view but the “openness” was the appealing factor. At the entrance we were welcomed by a “Alcohol strictly prohibited” board, surprising but definitely was a turn off for HV. As expected it was crowded, after waiting for 10 mins we got a table in the ground floor. The place has a decent ambience nothing pompous, the keep it simple mantra!!! The annoying thing about the surroundings was that it was infested with mosquitoes, inspite of lots of mosquito coils around, we had to be prepared for unexpected visitors near our table.

Time to order, frustrated HV chose Virgin Mary (first one in the mocktail list), sriki went for a masala pepsi (nope, not fresh lime soda this time J) and I guess I had this grape juice with honey, if I remember correctly the name was black bounty. For a change we ordered manchow soup (not much of a soup person…am sure all the 3 of us aren’t) and for starters we ordered I guess Kashmiri tikka n crispy spicy vegetables which was pretty spicy (slurrrrrrp….)
The main course was usual rotis n paneers n stuff. The memorable incident was when HV (who was high on his mocktail ) thought (may b true) that he “accidentally ” swallowed a mosquito..hehehehe(have to say HV u r all set for the fear factor Indian version… way 2 go dude)
At the end of it food was ok, I guess I rather stick with the word “nothing extra ordinary”, but did like the lighting from a distance. The bill came up to Rs. 240/- per head (no deserts, including tips)
As far as my rating goes

Beverages: **1/2 (considering V.mary)
